Looking after a cat was something I've always wanted to do but never expected to have to do at this time in my life until I saw one sitting at my front door, the night before my birthday. This was almost 5 months ago. I found this little grey cat sitting at my porch on the 2nd floor of a condo style student housing off campus, sitting right in-between me and the door. I couldn't ignore her. On top of it all, she is a talker. She was meowing as if she were trying to communicate to me, walked up to me and rubbed against my leg and hands. Clearly, she was a cat that loved people. I opened my door after walking around her and left it open, inviting her in if she wanted to visit my home, and she did. I now own this cat after confirming she's not owned by someone else and went through every procedure I needed to when owning a new cat. I became a cat dad much sooner than I ever expected to in my life

I named her Mitsuki. In Japanese, it means "beautiful moon", which felt like a fitting name considering I found her late at night when the moon was out. Plus I think its a cute name for a cat. From the day I got her, she continued to live up to her reputation when meeting her, she LOVES to talk. More than any other cat I've ever met. It's not the most uncommon thing ever but what started out as cute became very annoying very quick, especially when she meows at the dead of night. Things like these I had to learn to navigate when looking after a cat since I previously only owned dogs within my family. With all that said, I thankfully have many friends I reached out to for advice and help on taking care of her and made the process of adjusting smooth. With all that said, I thought she was one years-old with how small she was but found out from the vet visit she is approximately four years-old. I can't accept that, she's still a baby in my eyes.

At this point now, thanks to the help of my roommates as well that also look after her, she has become a huge part of my life that I can't live without. One night she got out somehow and it devastated me. The possibility of her being out of my life as fast as she came into it, bringing me a new breathe to my daily routine that helped me through many tough weeks, was something I had truly confronted. Long story short, she came back eventually and we made sure that she gets chipped during the appointment we had for her coming up. That moment solidified to me how important she is to me and to never get too complacent when it comes to giving her the absolute best and what she deserves. She's a super sweet cat that has turned family members and friends in my life from hating cats to loving them the moment they met her.

Hi Jake, as someone who has more thna 10 pets at home, all without my parent's will, I really enjoyed reading your blog.Mitsuki sounds like such a special soul, and your bond with her comes through so nicely. I could totally feel the emotional feelings, especially the part where she went missing,it reminded me how pets really do become family. Loved how you wrapped it all up with how she's transformed not just your life, but even those around you.
