WORLD WE IMAGINE Part 1
One way I think about as a way to make the world a better place is to show empathy to people as much as possible. This is something I try to apply in places in my life I feel it matters the most. My profession, family, friends, people I meet in general, situations where empathy is difficult to have, I try my best to have more perspective in any situation for not just others but myself as well. I think it is something that helps keep me in a more adjusted position to be able to also provide that same understanding for others. I feel empathy is something that is not given as often as it could be and it's not hard to understand why. It's exhausting. That's why I want to put an emphasis on that considering I am already a fairly sensitive person as is. I might as well apply that in a way that can help others navigate difficult situations and lead people on projects or campaigns that require me to work closely with people and help them perform the best they can as a team.
To be more specific, I would say that an example of where I apply this is in the film industry in all sorts of ways. Furthermore, I believe empathy is an umbrella that encompasses things like nuance and desire to uncover truth when trying to unravel difficult situations, ideas that are extremely useful for problem solving in places like film production. With where I'm at right now, I try to use empathy as a way of helping people on set work better together, making sure everyone has what they need to perform, and that everyone feels heard. I often feel like this is something lacking in sets and makes the film industry a difficult place to work in for many, especially those starting out or professionals that are mistreated. I aim to work my way up the ladder in the industry by becoming someone that helps improve the quality of productions and be one less producer in film that mistreats their crew. Making sure everyone in the creative space gets work where they can and are treated fairly is what I strive for and hope to help improve on in such a cut throat industry.
Your dedication to practicing empathy, especially in an industry as intense as film, is truly inspiring. It’s clear that your sensitivity isn’t a weakness—it’s your superpower, helping create a more respectful, collaborative, and human-centered creative environment.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a thoughtful and heartfelt reflection. I really admire how you connect empathy not just to personal relationships but also to your professional environment. Your focus on creating a more supportive, collaborative space on set is powerful and necessary.
ReplyDeleteHi Jake, empathy is such a crucial component of living and understanding fellow humans. It is truly nice to hear how you actively try to apply empathy in multiple facets of your life. I think you can take the next step forward by sharing your perspective with other people in the film industry. By displaying empathy to others, people can follow your kindness and show their own empathy as well.
