World We Imagine Part 3

Men’s Mental Health (MMH) Foundation for those with troubled backgrounds Have you ever heard of Andrew Tate? For those that don’t know, Andrew Tate is one of many influencers and online gurus who have created a community of men that promotes an “Alpha Male Lifestyle”, encouraging men who feel lost, alone, and unsure of themselves to strive for a lifestyle of pre-defined, shallow “success” and ultimately lessons in misogyny that exist to supposedly empower men. While the way described here seems rather unattractive, it is a practice that has worked and ultimately create a community of toxic men that feed into each other’s negativity and pessimistic view on the world, ultimately pushing them away from being people who can have empathy for others, especially women. The rise of the "male loneliness epidemic" is a topic of conversation relevant to this movement and something deeply misunderstood. The topics and approaches mentioned is something I’d like to counteract. Focusi...

WORLD WE IMAGINE Part 1

One way I think about as a way to make the world a better place is to show empathy to people as much as possible. This is something I try to apply in places in my life I feel it matters the most. My profession, family, friends, people I meet in general, situations where empathy is difficult to have, I try my best to have more perspective in any situation for not just others but myself as well. I think it is something that helps keep me in a more adjusted position to be able to also provide that same understanding for others. I feel empathy is something that is not given as often as it could be and it's not hard to understand why. It's exhausting. That's why I want to put an emphasis on that considering I am already a fairly sensitive person as is. I might as well apply that in a way that can help others navigate difficult situations and lead people on projects or campaigns that require me to work closely with people and help them perform the best they can as a team. To be ...

Looking after a cat was something I've always wanted to do but never expected to have to do at this time in my life until I saw one sitting at my front door, the night before my birthday. This was almost 5 months ago. I found this little grey cat sitting at my porch on the 2nd floor of a condo style student housing off campus, sitting right in-between me and the door. I couldn't ignore her. On top of it all, she is a talker. She was meowing as if she were trying to communicate to me, walked up to me and rubbed against my leg and hands. Clearly, she was a cat that loved people. I opened my door after walking around her and left it open, inviting her in if she wanted to visit my home, and she did. I now own this cat after confirming she's not owned by someone else and went through every procedure I needed to when owning a new cat. I became a cat dad much sooner than I ever expected to in my life I named her Mitsuki. In Japanese, it means "beautiful moon", which felt...

Book 2 - Think Again by Adam Grant

Think Again is a book I choose because of how much I enjoy books that challenge our way of thinking. I've read a handful of books before that range in topics going in this direction and this was one of many books I was already considering reading. Having actually read through it now, I can understand why so many people vouched for it. Adam Grant goes in depth inn this book over various ways to approach the way we think in a way that expands on our preconceived notions and ideas. Considering the seemingly impossible and being open to reshaping our beliefs and way of thinking in a way that can empower us with tools to better use our minds to go about our work and life. A particular moment that stood out to me was firefighter Wagner Dodge's story, surviving a wildfire through his quick thinking. These split second decisions he acted on that made the difference between him surviving and not are stories that drive Adam Grant's wisdom within the book further, helping us understa...

Monster Hunter: Wilds just came out today! If you aren't someone that is familiar with Monster Hunter, it's a game franchise with a huge following in Japan that later spread to the rest of the world! Now if you're asking yourself: "What do you do in Monster Hunter?", then I need you to read the title of the game one more time. Still don't know? Keep reading the title of the game until you figure it out, you got this I believe in you. Now for a game with such a simple premise, it might be surprising to hear of its once cult following that has now become an international phenomenon in the gaming community. I, as someone who has been a part of this cult following for a long time, am surprised about its popularity today too. The game had a much stronger following in Japan due to the original games being on the PSP (play station portable) and how gaming among friends in person was heavily encouraged in the early 2000's of Japan. There's a reason why Gameboy...

Book 1 - Post 2 (Putting the Rabbit in the Hat)

"Putting the Rabbit in the Hat" was a book that surprised me in ways unique to me as someone that works in film and entertainment. The book is essentially a biography of famous actor, Brian Cox's life. The book goes in depth on his early life leading up to his life as an actor and father. To say it was a rollercoaster is an understatement as Cox goes deep into a plethora of moments in his past that vary in tone, comical yet melancholic. The reason I choose this book was due to my love of the tv show, Succession. I found his performance to be stellar, later finding out that Cox has a catalogue of films he has been in where he did not stand out nearly as much as he did in his recent role as Logan Roy.  I always find the life of an actor fascinating as it is complicated, emotional, and inspiring. Actors as artists have a unique way of going about life that I think is always interesting looking into and Brian Cox's life was no exception. Cox having a family on the poor si...
